A new sofa, without buying one

How to measure your sofa

Take one measurement. That's all you need to pick the right size.

What to measure: the total width of the sofa, from the outer edge of the left armrest to the outer edge of the right armrest. Include the armrests. Hold the tape straight and level along the front, don't follow the curve of the cushions. The measuring photos at the end of the gallery show exactly where the tape goes.

Then pick your size:

Three things people get wrong:

Counting seats instead of measuring. A wide "3-seater" can measure 95 in and need a 4-Seater cover. The number of cushions doesn't matter; the width does.
Sitting right at the top of a range. If your sofa is 72 in, don't order the 2-Seater (57–73 in). Order the 3-Seater. The cover pulls on easier and won't strain at the corners.
Measuring only the seat. The cover goes over the armrests too, so the armrests must be in the measurement.

Sectional or L-shaped sofa? You need two covers, one for each part. Measure the long section from the outside of its armrest to the corner, and the chaise from the corner to its outside edge. Look up each number in the table and order that size for each part. See the sectional photo at the end of the gallery for the two measuring lines.
