The shade is built from stacked discs of tinted glass, each one a little wider than the one above it. Light passes through every layer, so you get a soft glow from the sides as well as a pool of light straight down.
The cord adjusts up to 59 in, so you can set it low over a dining table or higher in a living room or hallway. The wider two- and three-tier versions carry a long table; the smallest fits a bedside or entryway.
