The fabric is waterproof polyester, so a knocked-over glass or a sauce drip beads up instead of soaking into the chair. Wipe it off, or pull the cover and wash it.
The stretch pulls it tight over the back and seat without ties or straps. Two sizes cover standard dining chairs and taller high-back ones.
Despite the waterproof layer it stays thin and lets air through, so it doesn't feel like sitting on plastic.
