Open at the top and bottom, the fixture throws two beams along the wall instead of into the room. That gives you a pair of soft triangles of light above and below, which works well along a staircase, a hallway or either side of a bed.
The housing is solid aluminum and sits close to the wall, so it doesn't stick out into a narrow hallway or catch a shoulder on the stairs.
The LED is built in at 6W, drawing a fraction of what a halogen sconce would for the same output. There's no bulb to buy or replace.
